Sheltered from the open sea by the world's third largest coral reef, Mauritius offers natural, clear lagoons and pristine beaches. Situated in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius has a pleasantly tropical climate.

When to go

  • Mauritius has a year round subtropical climate with two main seasons. Summer runs from Nov to April, with temperatures averaging 30ºC. Winter temperatures average 24°c. Heavy rains, wind and even the odd cyclone can occur between Jan and Mar.
  • Oct-Apr is the best time for big game fishing

What to do

  • First and foremost people visit Mauritius for sun, sea and sand – and this is available year round. There are a superb selection of hotels and resorts right on the beaches
  • Nearly all the accommodation offers water sport facilities, tennis and there are a some championship golf courses for the more active
  • Family friendly resorts always have kid's clubs and restaurants and menus designed for younger travellers
  • Further afield, yacht cruises, diving and big game fishing can be arranged by most resorts
