In addition to the lodge accommodation, Loisaba has: Kiboko Star Beds, situated amongst a kopje of rocks overlooking a waterhole, which can accommodate three couples; a self contained private luxury house with two bedrooms and a cliff-top swimming pool; and a private exclusive cottage accommodating 2 couples.
Sabuk Lodge
Sabuk Lodge is perched high on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river, in the Northern Frontier District, overlooking the Laikipia Plateau and Samburu land. This stunning wilderness destination is home to professional safari guide Verity Williams and her family. Sabuk, created out of the local landscape, is built with twisted wood, stone boulders and thatch. It is a fabulous family holiday destination. Five open sided cottages, each one unique in design and décor, have en-suite bathrooms, with private verandahs facing out over the river gorge 150 feet below. The spacious mess building includes a dining room, lounge and mezzanine library, with a dramatic deck overlooking the river below. Along with all the normal game activities, guest can also do camel back safaris.
Lewa Downs Conservancy
Situated on the northern slopes of Mt Kenya, within the 62,000 acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy on Lewa Downs. The conservancy is committed to the conservation of wildlife and diverse habitats found in the area. The savannah grassland provides great game viewing opportunities - as good as anywhere in Africa, including endangered species. Lewa Downs has been the family home since 1924 when the Craig family moved from England to begin cattle ranching. Guests have been entertained at Lewa Wilderness, a private home in private paradise, for the last thirty years. The family home accommodates sixteen guests in eight comfortable thatched cottages with en-suite bathrooms, fireplaces and verandahs. The cosy sitting and open air dining room is used for reading, relaxing and eating. Healthy and delicious food is served, with produce from a five acre organic garden and home-raised livestock. In addition to game drives and walks, camel and horse-back safaris can be undertaken.
Offbeat Safaris
Laikipia is a unique wildlife area, with abundant game including several rare species. Offbeat safaris provide riding adventures across remote ranches within the Laikipia plateau. Offbeat has thoroughbred and thoroughbred-cross horses, many home bred and all trained for polo. Rides between campsites vary from 4 to 6 hours a day, with the most riding done in the cooler morning hours. During the heat of the day, the ride stops beside a river or under a canopy of trees, to enjoy a picnic lunch (made by each guest and carried in saddle bags) and rest for a couple of hours, before hacking into a ready made camp in the evening. Not everyday is a ‘moving’ day and on rest days guests can enjoy early morning and evening rides and game drives. Groups have a minimum of 4 and maximum of 12 guests, and set departure trips have either 11-day or 14-day itineraries. |
