Seychelles

The Republic of the Seychelles is made up of a cluster of 115 islands that lie scattered across 950,000 square kilometres of the warm Indian Ocean. This cluster, lying just south of the equator and beyond the cyclone belt, surrounded by warm waters and generally hot and humid weather, truly seems to epitomise the expression 'tropical island paradise'.

The Seychellois themselves, of which only 80,000 inhabit the archipelago, call their home "Forever Eden" and it is no wonder, for life is prolific here. More than 1,000 flowering plant species grow in lush and colourful profusion, over 220 bird species are recorded, and insects, amphibians and reptiles abound - amongst them the smallest frog and the largest land tortoise in the world. Mammals are less abundant as befits island ecosystems, with the most common being the famous flying fox, a large fruit bat.

Seychelles' magnificent islands possess unrivalled beauty ranging from the verdant mist forests of virgin granite peaks to the powder-soft sands of secluded beaches and together represent the ultimate tropical destination for the discerning traveller.

Suggested Accommodation

North Island******
North Island is a place of barefoot luxury for those seeking an unspoilt, spectacular tropical retreat. It is one of the 'inner' islands of the Seychelles that are often referred to as the most beautiful on Earth. There are only 11 handcrafted guest villas on the entire island, each constructed to create a sensorial experience in surroundings of understated elegance. All the structures at North Island Lodge have been individually handcrafted to give it a unique atmosphere and distinct flavour of the Seychelles. Each villa has a second bedroom, creating the perfect space for children. All the villas are built directly on the eastern beach, a few steps away from the powder-soft sand. A sunset bar and restaurant are tucked away on the western beach of the island. Activities include mountain biking, gym, guided walks, snorkelling, fishing, boating, sea kayaking, and scuba diving. North Island is an example of an ecologically sensitive utilisation of a precious natural treasure. It is a Noah's Ark; a sanctuary where natural habitats are being rehabilitated and where critically endangered Seychelles fauna and flora are being reintroduced.

Denis Island*****
This is an authentic private island experience where unparalleled service, the utmost privacy and utter luxury are yours to enjoy. The island boasts 23 Deluxe, air-conditioned cottages of 90 sq metres each offering a high standard of comfort within tasteful surrounds. Cottages have their own private sea-facing verandahs and courtyards dotted between casuarinas and coconut trees to ensure your total privacy. The island boasts numerous activities to give you a memorable touch of adventure in paradise. Fishing aficionados are familiar with Denis Island 's reputation as a year-round fishing destination and you can experience the thrill of a fishing charter on either of their 2 boats that operate on request and on a daily basis with experienced crews. Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing in the waters surrounding the island are also possible while those with a preference for land-based activities can enjoy visits to the farm, hiking the island's meandering pathways and guided nature walks that explore the island's rich flora and fauna.

Desroches Island*****
This paradise island is surrounded by 14 km of white, sandy beaches and has some of the most beautiful underwater dive sites and some of the best deep-sea fishing in the Seychelles. There are just 20 suites on the island making a stay here private and exclusive. Each suite has a large four-poster bed surrounding drapes and creates an overall feeling of luxury, refinement and spaciousness. The décor uses subtle pastel shades, and the cane armchairs and linen fabrics add to the natural feel. The atmosphere is continued into the bright and spacious bathrooms, with wooden frames to the mirrors and wardrobes made from Madagascan rabane, palm tree raffia. In front of the swimming pool, the Creole-style restaurant has a stunning view of the pool and the sea, and is open for sumptuous breakfasts, lunches and dinner. There are many water sports and land-based activities available, and the “Coconut Spa” provides the ultimate in pampering and relaxation.

Le Méridien Fisherman's Cove*****
Nestled in the heart of paradise on the southern tip of Beau Vallon, Le Méridien Fisherman's Cove re-opened in June 2004. The restored hotel features granite walls, thatched roofs, and a maze of fountains. The hotel's 70 guest rooms and suites all boast stunning ocean views. All rooms are sea-facing and decorated in contemporary style, with an oversized bathroom. The newly created Zen Fitness & Spa Centre offers a wide choice of beauty treatments and massages where professional therapists provide complete relaxation. All water sports, including waterskiing, parasailing, diving and deep-sea fishing, are available next to the hotel, at a charge. Non-motorised water sports, including sailing, hobie cat and windsurfing, are offered at no extra cost to guests. The resort also offers an outdoor swimming pool and an outdoor tennis court. Dining experiences range from the delicious buffets in the main restaurant to a light bite in the Sunset Bar.
