Waterberg is a huge mountain east of Otjiwarongo in the northern reaches of central Namibia. It is about 50km long, up to 16km wide and rises from the plains of the Omaheke, as this part of the Kalahari is known, to a height of up to 200 metres. The Waterberg is famous for the nature reserve established on the plateau in 1972. Waterberg Plateau Park is the home to game such as buffalo, white and black rhino, giraffe as well as eland, roan and sable antelope, and it borders directly on Waterberg Wilderness.
Waterberg Plateau Campsite is situated in a high-lying valley, where camping guests can stay on ten secluded sites which are generously proportioned and shaded by trees. Chilled beverages and meat for grilling are available at a kiosk. Campsite facilities include private grill and tap, clean bathrooms and toilets with hot and cold water, swimming pool (with spring water), covered bar (also stocks meat for grilling) and a lookout point for sundowners.
Camping guests are able to take part in the activities offered at Waterberg Wilderness Lodge. These activities include guided nature drives, nature walks, hiking trails and cultural experiences. The hikes take you onto the famous plateau of Waterberg. Even though animals usually keep their distance, your hiking guide is almost certain to show you fresh scent of leopard, rhino, buffalo and various antelope. Nature drives take you onto the vast plains of the Omaheke (Kalahari). Guests are likely to encounter white rhinos on most drives. It also possible to see giraffe, zebra and gnu, gemsbok, red hartebeest and eland, impala, springbok, kudu and ostrich.
