To the west of Chobe and sandwiched between the Okavango Delta and the Caprivi Strip are four unfenced private concessions which between them cover an area of pristine wilderness. The Kwando Reserve alone is larger than Greater London, and yet within these massive protected areas are just a handful of camps, which offer visitors one of the most privileged wilderness experiences in southern Africa. Each concession is home to just two or three intimate tented bush camps in an area of outstanding beauty which for most of the year is teeming with wildlife.
A mixture of habitats ensures plentiful species of mammals, and in the dry winter months, the waters of the Kwando River, Linyanti Marshes, Selinda Spillway and Savuti Channel act as lifelines that attract herds of elephant in numbers not found anywhere in Africa. These watery havens are interspersed with open plains dotted with palm forest islands, riverine woodlands and mopane forests that stretch to the Moremi and Okavango. The area is also famous for its predators and lion numbers are high, with cheetah and leopard also regularly seen and several packs of the elusive wild dog denning in the area. Especially in the dry months, no visit to Botswana is complete without a stay in one of these amazing reserves.
